The truth about word of mouth

Yesterday I went to a dinner party. In that dinner there was a little girl that should be around 6 years old. I spent the night telling her that I was an astronaut and the girl didn't believe in a word of what I was saying. I kept saying it was my profession and she kept saying she didn't believed in me. At a certain point I started thinking that even though it could be truth she wouldn't believe in me by any mean. But why wouldn't her believe me? The answer came with the end of the night. When her aunt showed up I explained her that the girl didn't believe I was an astronaut. The aunt confirmed my story and her attitude changed in a second. The expression and the way she talked at me. This made me think about how word-of-mouth works.
In a world where the messages keep on coming and a lot of them aren't true in who shall we believe? Obviously, in trustworthy people. So it doesn't matter that brands keep on saying they are good. People won't believe in what they're saying. They have to be loyal and say the truth and let trustworthy people pass their message.
